Year 12 Entrance Exam

MacRobertson High School Year 12 Entrance Exam. The tutor has been tutoring since the mid-1990s. It is the view of the tutor that to have a chance of being successful at entering MacRobertson at Year 12 level the student needs to do at least Year 12 Maths, preferably Maths Methods.

Also the MacRobertson High School Website says:

“At all these levels [Year 10, 11 & 12] students are asked to submit evidence of academic and co-curricular involvement and achievement. Applications will be considered and a short list of candidates will be interviewed by a school panel”

By considering the above, the tutor suggests that to increase the chances of achieving high academic results and impressing the MacRobertson High School administration, the student should:

  1. Undertake Year 11 Accelerated Maths and Science Group Classes, which are runned by the tutor. So to ensure that the student is proficient in all aspects of Maths and Science up to and including Year 11. It is true that the Entrance Exam will cover only English and Mathematics, but it is in the view of the tutor that if in the subsequent interview the student can say that she has covered all the science up to the end of Year 11 (preferably one of the more difficult Maths e.g. Maths Methods and one of the more difficult Sciences (i.e. Physics or Chemistry) this will impress the interviewers and will increase the chance of the student being selected to enter MacRobertson . Remember you are in direct competition with other students to secure one of the “few vacancies”, as stated by the MacRobertson High School website.
  2. If possible, undertake Year 12 Accelerated Maths and Science Group Classes, which are runned by the tutor, so to further increase the chances of getting selected to enter MacRobertson.
Of course, for the student to be successful in the English section of the Entrance Exam, the student will require adequate tuition in English.

By doing the above, plus a copy of the student’s two most recent school reports (which would have been boosted after having done the above stated Year 11-12 Accelerated Maths and Science group classes), it should increase the probability of being accepted at MacRobertson High School, and of being able to do the subjects that you want to do. Because as the MacRobertson website says:

“Offers of places at Year 11 and 12 also depend on vacancies occurring in particular subjects: there may be several places available in some subjects, but none in others.”

In regards to interview preparation, one possible way in which the student can prepare herself is to go to the Monash University webpage detailing the:

“Engineering and IT Leadership Program – School of Engineering”

This webpage includes a 14 minute video where Monash University students discuss, amongst other things, their aims, goals and leadership aspirations for the future.

As stated in the MacRobertson High School website any student attempting to enter MacRobertson High School not only needs to have “academic” achievements but must also demonstrate:

“co-curricular involvement and achievement”

Which usually means significant achievement in one or more areas of co-curricular involvement such as sport, music, debating, and performing arts, so to have a chance of entering MacRobertson High School.
