Melbourne High School Year 10 Entrance Exam Preparation Group Classes

These group classes start on 3 February 2019 and end in first week of June 2019. They cover the maths section of the entrance exam. Extensive summary notes in colour and homework will be given. Revision will be undertaken. Students will seat for tests and exams.

Every Sunday from 2pm - 6pm

The tutor has been tutoring since the mid-1990s.

Over the years the tutor has prepared students for the Melbourne High School Year 10 Entrance Exam.

After the students have sat for the Year 10 Entrance Exam, the tutor has asked a number of students, over the years, what topics/questions were on the maths section of the 
Year 10 Entrance Exam, and all of the students have said that the Year 10 Melbourne High School Entrance Exam had all the maths up to the end of Year 10 Maths with an emphasis on the more difficult questions. As a result, the above stated Melbourne High School Year 10 Entrance Exam Preparation Group Classes cover all the maths up to the end of Year 10 Maths with an emphasis on the more difficult questions. Numerical reasoning questions will be covered.

In these group classes homework will be given, which the student needs to do so to have a real good chance at achieving the above stated positive result.

Every week students will be sitting a test. And at the end of each month, students will seat an exam that covers all the maths that has been covered up to that point. These tests and exams will be unlimited in time i.e., each student can take as much time to complete each test and exam as they like. This is because the tutor is more interested in knowing what each student knows and does not know.

At the end of each month the tutor will send a letter, email or text message to a smart phone informing the student’s parent on how the student is performing.

By doing this extensive assessment the student, tutor and parent will know precisely how the student is coping, and rectify in advance, any potential problems which could occur.

Students do not need to bring along any textbook. The summary notes given out by the tutor, will more than adequately cover the whole of the course in each subject.

There will be a 15 minute break in the middle of each group class.

Students can bring along any food and drink that they like, and are more than welcome to use the microwave oven.

If a student misses a group class, the student can receive the summary notes for that missed group class. The cost of these summary notes, that cover the group class that the student missed, will be 5 cents per page. In a group class, usually 60-100 pages of notes will be covered. So the cost of these summary notes will usually be about (60 pages X 5 cents =) $3.00 to about (100 pages X 5 cents =) $5.00.

Of course, for the student to be successful in the English section of the Entrance Exam, the student will require adequate tuition in English.

“Unlike Year 9 entry, the academic assessment is not used as the main determinant of offers”

And as the Melbourne High School Website goes on to explain, Melbourne High School administration will determine whether the student has been successful to enter Year 10 at Melbourne High School, based on the following 3 criteria:

1. Written Application

2. Academic Ability Assessment Test (Covered by the above stated Melbourne High School Year 10 Entrance Exam Preparation Group Classes)

3. Interview

So a student needs to ensure that they also write out the best possible written application that they can, and that they are as well prepared as possible for the interview.

In regards to the interview preparation, one possible way in which the student can prepare himself is to go to the Monash University webpage detailing the:

This webpage includes a 14 minute video where Monash University students discuss, amongst other things, their aims, goals and leadership aspirations for the future.

As stated in the Melbourne High School website any student attempting to enter Melbourne High School not only needs to show “high academic achievements” but must also:

“demonstrate significant achievement in one or more areas of co-curricular involvement such as sport, music, debating, and performing arts”

so to have a chance of entering Melbourne High School.
