Year 12 Maths & Science Summer Group Classes

More Information

Year 12 Maths Methods, Specialist Maths, Physics and Chemistry Summer Group Classes

  • Year 12 Maths Methods: Wed 7pm, Sat 12pm,  Sun 4pm. Starts 1 December 2018.
  • Year 12 Specialist Maths: Mon 7pm, Fri 7pm, Sun 9am. Starts 2 December 2018.
  • Year 12 Physics: Tues 7pm, Sat 9am, Sun 12pm.  Starts 1 December 2018.
  • Year 12 Chemistry: Thurs 7pm, Sat 3pm, Sun 7pm.  Starts 1 December 2018.
  • By doing the above Summer Group Classes, by the end of January 2019, the students would have covered all of their respective Year 12 subjects, having an advantage over many of their classmates.
  • By speaking to a number of students over the years, the tutor believes that to obtain a Study Score between 45 and 50, a student needs to do at least about 50 past exam papers.

For example, if  a student participates in the above stated Year 12 Maths Methods Summer Group Classes, by the end of January 2019 the student would have done all of Year 12 Maths Methods, and as a result the student can start doing past exam papers.

From 1 February 2019 to about 1 November 2019 (when the VCAA VCE exams occur) there is a time span of about 9 months. These 9 months correspond to about 40 weeks. If during these 40 weeks a student does 2 pass exams per week, then by about  1 November 2019, the student would have done (2 exams per week X 40 weeks = ) 80 past exam papers in a calm, confident manner.

By doing these 80 past exams the student would be more than properly prepared for the VCAA VCE Year 12 Maths Methods end of the year exam papers.

Also during the course of the 2019 scholastic year the student’s Year 12 Maths Methods teacher will be making the student seat for several SACs (School Assessed Coursework). On a regular basis teachers make up SACs by getting questions from past exam papers. With the student consistently doing 2 past exam papers per week, right throughout the 2019 scholastic year, this would put the student in a better situation to conquer these SACs, and Year 12 Maths Methods overall.

To assist the students to do the 80 past exam papers, the tutor will be running Exam Revision Group Classes that will be running from the first week of February 2019 to the first week of November 2019.

These weekly Exam Revision Group Classes will occur at the following times:

Year 12 Maths Methods: Sunday 11am – 1pm

Year 12 Specialist Maths: Sunday 3pm – 5pm

Year 12 Physics: Sunday 1pm – 3pm

Year 12 Chemistry: Sun 9am – 11am

The cost of these Exam Revision Group Classes is 2 hours for $20.

Remember practice makes perfect. Everything that can be said about sport can be said about Maths and Science. If you practice sport you will get better at sport, if you practice maths and science you will get better at maths and science.

That’s why every time a leading sporting coach is interviewed on TV, the tutor intensely listens to the interview. There are sport stars, why not be a maths and science star!

In regards to the Year 12 Maths and Science Summer Group Classes, because, for example, Year 12 Maths Methods covers such a big area, and there is only 2 months to cover this large area, each student needs to come to all 3 above-stated prescribed times for Year 12 Maths Methods group classes each week (i.e. Wed 7pm, Sat 12pm, Sun 4pm), so that the whole of the Year 12 Maths Methods course can be covered within the 2 months. That is, a student needs to come to the Wed 7pm group class, and then 3 days later, the same student needs to come to the Saturday 12pm group class, and then 1 day later, the same student needs to come to the Sunday 4pm group class, and then 3 days later the same student needs to come to the Wednesday 7pm group class and so forth. The same applies for Year 12 Specialist Maths, Physics and Chemistry.

In the Year 12 Summer group classes homework will be given, which the student needs to do, so to have a real good chance at achieving the above stated positive result.

For each subject, towards the end of December, students will seat for an exam. This will give an idea of how the student is coping. Then at the end of January students will seat for an exam that covers the whole of the subject course, for each subject that they have decided to do in the Summer Group Classes. These exams will be unlimited time, i.e. each student can take as much time, to complete each exam, as they like. This is because the tutor is more interested in what each student knows and does not know.

Students do not need to bring along any textbook. The summary notes given out by the tutor, will more than adequately cover the whole of the course in each subject.

There will be a 15 minute break in the middle of each group class. Students can bring along any food and drink that they like, and are more than welcome to use the microwave oven.

There will be no Summer Group Classes on 24, 25 and 26 December to allow for Christmas. And no Summer Group Classes on 31 December, 1 and 2 January to allow for New Year’s Day.

If a student misses a group class, the student can receive the summary notes for that missed group class. The cost of these summary notes, that cover the group class that the student missed, will be 5 cents per page. In a group class, usually 60-100 pages of notes will be covered. So the cost of these  summary notes will usually be about (60 pages X 5 cents =) $3.00 to about (100 pages X 5 cents =) $5.00.
